Academic research profile

Research profile: concepts of pathogenesis, molecular mechanisms of synaptopathies, reflex arcs, the psychosomatic continuum and molecular cascade of somatization, and a neuropsychological approach to somatic pathophysiology.

Research profile

Neurogenic concept of pathogenesis

The initial pathogenetic mechanism of many disorders constituting a broad class of cellular, organ, and systemic pathology is not direct damage to effector structures (cells, organs, and tissues), but primary alterations in the apparatus of their neural regulation.

Synaptopathy

At the molecular and cellular levels, this process unfolds within the synaptic apparatus. These are pathologies in which a failure of neural regulation rapidly leads to destruction, neuronal death, or irreversible remodeling of effector-organ tissues. The synapse represents a zone of cytotoxic injury.

Psychosomatic continuum and the molecular cascade of somatization

This concept is based on understanding how unconscious psychological conflicts, suppressed emotions, and personality characteristics (for example, alexithymia) are transformed into somatic chaos and somatic pathology through hyperactivation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) and the autonomic nervous system (ANS).

Neuropsychological approach to somatic pathophysiology

Any somatic, autonomic, or psychoneurological disorder is considered through the prism of structural-functional disintegration of the three principal functional blocks of the brain, in accordance with the concept of systemic dynamic localization of higher mental functions developed by A.R. Luria's school.

Paradigm of regulatory decline

Aging of the organism is determined not as chaotic wear of peripheral organs or the realization of isolated cellular apoptosis, but as a total disintegration of systemic reflex regulation unfolding as an ascending-descending vicious circle: from cognitive-emotional burnout to molecular synaptopathy of effector tissues.

Cognitive evoked potentials (CEPs) as biomarkers of aging

Neurotherapy (rTMS, intermittent hypoxic-hyperoxic training, neurofeedback) not only improves cognitive functions but also provides pathogenetic restoration of the synaptic apparatus, reducing the biological age of the brain and restoring regulatory control over somatic effector organs.

Dissertation research

Working title

A systemic-dynamic neuropsychological approach to neurogenic pathogenesis: psychosomatic interactions and age-related changes in the organism.

Aim

To develop and substantiate a systemic-dynamic neuropsychological model of neurogenic pathogenesis that reveals the relationship between changes in higher mental functions, central regulatory mechanisms, and psychosomatic interactions in the formation of functional disintegration and age-related changes in the organism.

Tasks

  • Theoretically substantiate a systemic-dynamic neuropsychological approach to the study of neurogenic pathogenesis, psychosomatic interactions, and age-related changes in the organism.
  • Define the neuropsychological mechanisms of impaired systemic regulation and identify the leading patterns of functional disintegration.
  • Investigate the relationships of cognitive, emotional-regulatory, neurodynamic, and autonomic changes with manifestations of neurogenic pathogenesis.
  • Identify the role of psychosomatic interactions in the formation and maintenance of systemic regulatory disintegration.
  • Investigate the age-related dynamics of neuropsychological and neurophysiological indices of systemic regulation and determine their relationship with aging processes.
  • Assess the diagnostic significance of a set of neuropsychological and neurophysiological indicators, including cognitive evoked potentials, as potential markers of regulatory disintegration.
  • Develop an integrative model of neurogenic pathogenesis combining the neuropsychological, neurophysiological, and psychosomatic levels of human systemic regulation.

Research hypothesis

Neurogenic pathogenesis and aging are hypothesized to be multilevel systemic-dynamic processes based on disrupted integration of psychological, neurophysiological, and psychosomatic regulatory mechanisms. A key element of this process is the progressive disintegration of functional brain systems, manifested by disturbances of neurodynamics, programming and control of activity, emotional and autonomic regulation, and intersystem interaction. Neuropsychological changes are hypothesized not only to reflect the state of central regulation, but also to serve as indicators of the formation and progression of neurogenic regulatory disintegration, including its age-related dynamics.

Scientific novelty rationale

What may be new

1. Systemic-dynamic neuropsychological model of neurogenic pathogenesis

A systemic-dynamic neuropsychological model of neurogenic pathogenesis has been developed, integrating mental activity, the functional organization of the brain, neurogenic regulatory mechanisms, psychosomatic interactions, and age-related dynamics within a single conceptual system.

2. Neuropsychological profile of systemic regulatory disintegration

The concept of a neuropsychological profile of systemic regulatory disintegration is proposed, reflecting a constellation of disturbances in neurodynamics, programming and control, cognitive-emotional regulation, and intersystem interaction.

3. Model of the psychosomatic continuum

A model of the psychosomatic continuum is substantiated as a bidirectional system in which the influence of mental processes on bodily regulation and the reverse influence of somatic state are considered a single dynamic regulatory cycle.

4. Systemic-dynamic model of age-related regulatory disintegration

A systemic-dynamic model of age-related regulatory disintegration is proposed, according to which aging is considered not only as a change in individual cognitive functions, but also as a restructuring of functional-system integration and a decline in the stability of multilevel regulatory mechanisms.

5. Principle of integral assessment of neurogenic regulatory disintegration

A principle of integral assessment of neurogenic regulatory disintegration has been developed, providing for comparison of neuropsychological, psychosomatic, autonomic, and neurophysiological indicators to identify common and individual patterns of systemic regulation.

Akademisches Forschungsprofil

Was neu sein könnte
